It looks like one of the Kawasakis used in Mad Max to be honest, so yeah, maybe it is cool after all....

Have a good journey!

Agree. I never understand why people do this to their bikes... just buy a sport-touring bike. The FJR comes to mind, and is only a few thousand more than the CB.

Of course, it's his bike and I do admire the work it takes to get it to the way he wants. Beer

Was this fairing made specifically for the cb1100?

I'm pretty sure the fairing pre-dates the CB1100 by about 25-30 yrs.

I understand him perfectly. Today's sport tour bike are huge heavy pigs, they weigh what Goldwings were 25-30 years ago. They are too heavy for me and will be more so in 10-15 years front now. I have had the same idea with my 2013 CB.

Even better. Makes me feel good about this GS550 I'm about to pick up with a windjammer.

And besides, anything that can be done, can be undone. Naked bike 93% of the time, touring the rest.

How do the lower fairings affect the engine cooling, since this is not water cooled?

I was riding my 14 std recently and the heat coming off the engine is amazing...not as bad as having that back cylinder sitting right between your legs like the V Twins, but really hot, even at 30-40 mph.

I wondered if I fairing it up, how that would affect the engine cooling....but without being water cooled, we don't even have an over heat light do we?

I'm torn between a naked bike like my 76 CB 750 and my half fairing bike my 84 GPZ750....The GPZ was a near perfect bike with it's 4 to 1 Kerker headers and SuperTrapp. I definitely don't think I could ride my CB1100 the 500 miles to Florida or 300 miles to the Smokey Mountains, the 70-80 mph on the free ways and the wind buffeting beats you up pretty good.

But for running errands around town, or a 25-50 mile ride out in the country, the CB1100 is a GREAT bike!

Some are, definitely, but not all. The Yamaha FJR is only 100 more pounds, and the BMW R1200RT weighs about 40 more pounds. Keep in mind both of these bikes come with hard bags, and have full fairings, which increase weight, and have way more sophisticated electronics packages. The bags and fairings you'd add yourself anyway so when you look at the totality of the thing, these bikes are pretty close in weight to the CB, but the total package is much nicer on the ST's for doing long-distance, IMO. Of course, they cost more, however. Even then, though, by the time you get done buying bags, retro-fitting fairings, etc., you're probably pretty close on price with the FJR (forget the BMW, it's price is double that of the CB).

Thanks Azbob, I've got my K75RT for my touring, but the bike is really hot in hot weather.
