This is funny thou...I had the '87 Honda Accord with pop up head lamps that had a sealed Lo/Hi beam unit and used to burn out one side every few months for no reason.
After 4-5 units being burnt, I decided to carry one spare in my trunk....problem solved, never burn again and the spare one has never been needed.
Identical issue with my father's stop light bulb...
Try it to see what happens.
Next time, when going for a 1-2 day trip, I am going to take a small-folding umbrella...and I am not superstitious...
