My CB1100 never saw 10W30, not even from the dealership. They only had GN4 10W40. Never a "ticking sound", not even on days of -25C riding. The air-cooled CB1100 lump was surprisingly pleasant at sub-zero riding temperatures, but the suspension is hard.
Now, the GN4 is not particularly special oil. It thins very quickly in hot weather. For that reason, I wonder if that is why the lump purred in cold weather riding and the clutch felt a little brash in hot weather riding? Anyway, none of that matter anymore once I decided to go semi and full synthetic.
