Cormanus, there could be another problem. Going by the service manual, which is about totally useless for this problem, it could also be the ECU.

I would not just jump on that though. Too many other things to check first. Plus we haven’t had ANY reports of failed ECU’s IIRC. But that was one reason Max wanted to know if the IACV was moving upon ignition on.

Interesting theory on the ecu. My son and I were talking this morning and he thought maybe something in the throttle cable. For giggles I unplugged just the iacv and fired up the bike and it was straight up 1750 rpms, just as it was with the iacv plugged in. Then I unplugged the plug on the left side on the penlum marked Keihen and that brought it down to the 1050 rpms.
