I have ridden with my girlfriend quite a bit and it's a lot of fun for rides up to about an hour. I have no backrest so she holds on to me. :-) Let me point out that even though the Honda rear rack has no backrest it does have great hand rails on both sides. Putting a hand on even one of them makes passengers pretty secure without holding on to the rider. The seat strap works fine but the handrails on your rack are even better. If your darlin' is insecure back there you can also bungee a small sleeping bag, rolled up jacket, or tail bag on that rear rack that will double as a back rest until a bolt on rest becomes available.
