Engine Idle

I am told this is done for emission regulations. It gets the cats up to temp quicker and reduces pollution. Only a Honda engineer could say for sure but I bet emission regulations have something to do with the long high idle you speak of.

I'm pretty sure its to bring the cat and o2 sensor up to temp quicker. Even though the o2 has a heater. I never let a bike idle more than about 2 min unless in front of an electric fan. I chk oil after ridind at least a few miles when everything is at operating temp.

my kid used to leave for work before daylight. He'd let his 650 single idle while he sat inside with a cup of coffee. One morning I woke up and looked out the window to see the exhaust pipe glowing cherry red. I think that's when I called him an idiot.
