Engine Idle

Purely speculation but this may be a possible explanation. A lot of newer cars will start and rev up a bit when you start them. I am told this is done for emission regulations. It gets the cats up to temp quicker and reduces pollution. Only a Honda engineer could say for sure but I bet emission regulations have something to do with the long high idle you speak of.
