Engine Idle
#1
Yes,with almost any new model, one has to work out the
kinks. Thus far the CB 1100 has but a couple.
The Fuel gauge and the engine idle. Also the peg placement, but
that is more personal { Older riders need more forward placement }
Yesterday I took a short ride to gas up because Winter is
approaching and I might not be able to ride for awhile.I usually
can manage a few days in December and also January. But only
once in a Feburary { Coldest month }.
The engine idles for more than 4 minutes.Hondas usually are mapped for a 3 minute idle. That works out nicely for when you check
the oil level.Let the bike run for 3 minutes and off for 2 minutes.
But yesterday which wasn't cold I decided to re-check the oil level.
I use a 4 minute On and 2 1/2 minute off procedure.
The manuel states 3-5 minutes on and 2-3 minutes off. So,it's
within range.
The problem with an extended idle is that engine will slightly
overheat. And when an engine is in Idle, the clutch engages differently.Start out on a motorcycle in full idle and go to engage the
clutch and shifter and it will clunk hard.I don't like doin' that.
Any thoughts
