Probably a cost decision. The Euro and Asia markets are not nearly as price-sensitive as the U.S. market. Manufacturers will often delete a feature on a North American model just to keep the price below some arbitrary number that their marketing department comes up with.
It's more common on niche bikes whose low unit sales make it harder to amortize costs.
