My 2 cents worth:
I've never bought an extended warranty for anything ever. I figure that over a lifetime, I'll come out way ahead.
Guth has a great point - get what you want. You'll be so happy you won't think about the money for long but you'll always kick yourself for not getting the bike you know you really want. Good luck to you.
