I wouldn't be too hard on the purchasers, or even the dealerships. It's just part of 'supply and demand' to determine price in a market. If a certain number of people didn't pay the 'extras' who's to say that the overall price per unit for everyone wouldn't be higher? That is to say, you need a certain number of people who are willing to pay extra so that you, the savvy consumer, can get the discount?
