Ferret, I used your excellent guide (with elipten's guidance) for my 600mi. Thank you for that! We did end up using the locks to get the old filter off, and putting the new one one I just hand tightened the hell out of it.
Rboe, I tried using a strap wrench to get the original filter off, and it wouldn't budge! Factory spec must be 850lb.ft. of torque! It would probably fare well for future changes though.
