I truly appreciate all the input. I'm not going to be doing long distances every weekend; I just need to have the ability when I want to go to Colorado on that one trip per year. Sounds like the CB1100 will do it as well as the Shadow did. I think I can find a windshield for those infrequent long trips.
To me, the CB1100 just looks like what a motorcycle should look like. It reminds me of those I saw when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's. I test rode one recently. I pulled up to a stop light behind a Harley and thought the guy was going to break his neck looking back at it. He motioned me up and asked me if it was a 400. I explained that it was an 1100 and that it was a new bike. He said he once had a Honda CB400 and it was the best f'in bike he ever owned. I was tempted to ask him, if that was the case, then why was he on a Harley now. I decided not to go there.
Regarding the other bike, it isn't a CBR1000, it is a CB1000R. It's the naked bike with a more upright riding position. Can't get rid of it; it's too much fun. I'm 54 and still enjoy getting some serious lean angle in fast corners on country roads. The ST does that pretty well too, it's just so heavy. I like the lightness of the CB1000R. I'm thinking the CB1100 will be closer to that than the 700 pound ST.
