Only 2 things would make me shy away from using the CB1100 as a long haul mount:
1. The valve inspection is every 8000 miles. That is way more often than I would want to have to deal with if you're really pouring on the miles.
2. Ditto for the tires being too skinny. They'd have to be replaced way more often that I'd care for.
I can tell you that is NOT the case. I got a good 9,000 miles on my front, with meat to spare and almost 15,000 mile on my rear, again with PLENTY of meat to spare. I just don't like riding my tires bald.
That's a surprise to hear (the pleasant kind). While tire life is definitely a case of YMMV, I hope to find out that I get really long life out of mine !
I seem to be getting more mileage out of rear tires on 2 other bikes:
Honda Fury @8000+ and the rear tire still has more than 1/2 left.
Honda CBR250R @9000+ and the rear tire still has more then 1/2 left.
I would wonder if non-sport tires in general are just getting better as far as tread life goes but my Harley Softail was begging for a new tire @9000... (a 200mm size at that)
hmmm...
