Geeze, really sorry to hear that, CIP. My condolences.
From the sound of things in these responses, it looks like a lot of us are getting to that age where we're losing parents. I just lost mine last year, and I still think about him every day. I got a lump in my throat about it, just reading your post. Hang in there, bud.
Oddly enough, I had a very similar incident happen to me on the bike the weekend before last, that was also way too close and scared the crap out of me, too. Not like one of those moments of "Well, gee, that was close. Yet another idiot on the road" - more like - "Holy cuss, how am I still alive???". I haven't been able to throw a leg over a bike since it happened, either. At 57, luckily I've only had one serious accident (back in '96), but that was bad enough to have kept me off a bike for years, and has made me very cautious ever since I re-started riding. But this close call, unfortunately, has me second-guessing why I'm still riding...
Thanks for sharing this. This is a great bunch of guys we've got on this site, and I think that commiserating with like-minded people really helps with things like this.
