Good question!
The stock ECU apparently can't fully handle significant modifications to intake and exhaust systems. There could be loss of performance, idling issues, etc.
I ran a Staintune slip-on without an add-on fuel controller with no issues. But I installed a PVC before I opened up the intake (TSR air funnel and K&N filter) and the exhaust (Motogear cat-free headers). Bike runs great but I don't know what would have happened without the PCV.
Hopefully some experts will weigh in, maybe touching on dyno-tuning and ECU reflashes.
