Rub it in Mr. Ferret. I'm always trying to shift up to 6th gear on my '13. At the same time, when passing someone at 50mph one doesn't always have to downshift to get up to speed quickly.
I love my CB so much I'm swapping out perfectly good accessories with slightly fancier ones - fairing, sprocket cover, side panel, shocks, etc. and even getting a second seat, another K&H, the solo.
Someone will find a solution to the left handlebar switch, maybe this year, or maybe on Honda's super deluxe 2015 model.
