Riding skill has more to do with off road prowess than the type bike you're on I think. I knew a fellow in the 70's who rode a Honda CL175 in motocross and won more than his share of races. He careened around the track barely in control, throttle wide open and rarely crashed. The logo on his helmet read "Wild Man" and he was. That said, the new Honda 500's look good and I wouldn't mind having the "adventure" version fitted with some DOT knobbies for riding the miles of rural dirt roads around home.
