Incidents like that sure scare the beejeebers out of you!!
Glad you avoided disaster.
Where I live used to be a calm, civil and laid back part of the world, but these days it's becoming quite insane in traffic and you have to watch for idiots 100% of the time - even if you're in the right like you were.
There's too much of the, "it's only wrong if you get caught," mentality.
You did the right thing by pulling yourself together and moving on.
