When I bought the 13 there was a few things i disliked, the non matching side covers, large can, black engine. Since changing the side covers, exhaust, seat, tires and gearing i have come to really like the 13 model. I think the gauges are better looking on the 13 esp. the 140 speedo
I have ridden them both and feel the 13 has a lower center of gravity. The 2014 i rode had stock tires so its not fair to compare handling.
When the DLX came out I admittedly liked the looks better, i have changed my mind since then with modifications.
Its really all about the look of the two, don't buy something you'll regret after leaving the dealership.

Looks were my primary draw to the CB1100. I personally much prefer the sleeker styling of the first generation design, particularly the red tank with black engine and the black cast wheels with polished rims.
Still, there are some notable differences to consider and knowing how you're primarily going to use the bike also comes into play. If I were going to spend a lot more time out on the highway, I'm sure that I would appreciate the 6th gear offered by the 2014 models. But I tend to stick more to the backroads (I also prefer to keep my CB1100 free of any kind of fairing or windshield). While I don't care as much for the shape of the larger tank, I would probably appreciate the longer range if I was regularly going on longer rides. I can do without anything else that adds additional weight. I do like the extra functionality Honda added to the instrumentation, but that is nothing that I strongly desire and the design of the new cockpit doesn't appeal to me all that much.
Bottom line: the 2014 models offer some nice upgrades that are going to appeal more to some people than others. As far as the styling goes, I think Honda got it right the first time around. Still, be it a 1st generation CB1100 or one of the 2nd generation derivatives, they are all fine machines.
All matches my feelings. I was fortunate to have the choice, in that the 2013 and 2014 were on the showroom floor together, and I could have my choice. Side by side, I just preferred the 2013, even before you consider the thousands in savings.
