FINAL UPDATE
Well, my adventure with the CB1100EX has come to a close....
Dealer took the bike back, I took a hit on the price and I'll consider it as an expensive lesson.
I'd like to thank all you guys for your helpful comments during my brief stay. This forum seems like a collection of polite and thoughtful people and I'm truly grateful.
I really thought that the Honda could be a real thoroughbred but was quite disappointed.
I put 80,000 miles on my last 'retro roadster', or as I would call it a 'standard motorbike'... much of it exploring all over Europe, but she was equally happy in the city and everything in between.
By way of a parting comment, I would just like to repeat my surprise that a motor that seems to have such a wide rough spot could be so pleasing to so many of you.
For example the Ducati scrambler, triumph bonnie, guzzi V7, BMW r9T all offer a very tractable engine from 2.5k to redline.... I was really shocked once I got past the break in mileage to discover that 4k to 5k was so comparatively rough on the Honda.
So... if you ever get a chance to try any of those models you might be pleasantly surprised.
Anyway, thanks again, I just rebuilt my old 80,000 + Guzzi and I'll be riding off again wondering about the strangeness of the modern world where the triumphs are smooth and the hondas vibe your hands off!!!
If I see any of you on your fine looking machines I'll give you a big wave
Over and out!
Cheers
