APRS on your bike
#14
Since the amp is not weather proof the top case was required and when all is said and done a mobile unit would have been the better choice. Kenwood and Yausu both make units that would have been "drop in" (it is my understanding the Kenwood mobil unit is basically the same electronics as the HT, just more power and a different display). For the money; it would have been a much better choice.

Andy has it setup for his two road bikes, with his 1400 California ready to roll for the Datil Rally. Chris is in mid-project for his Griso and we hope to have him up and running for the rally too. His new job is eating up a bunch of his time so it will be tight.

My Kenwood can do double duty as a repeater too. Just not setup for that yet (it has a full featured TNC inside where as the Yaesu is more of a KISS modem - I think). Having the HT does make it a bit handier for off the bike use (I keep telling my self!). It does not have any mapping capability, but its' GPS suite does allow for a return to start point feature. If I leave the instructions at home I can still get lost though. Big Grin
