when are these bikes actually out of gas??

I found myself on a country road with no gas stations while knowing the distance to return to the last gas station was greater that what I had gas for, so I pressed on. The last rectangle on the gas meter was flashing but then the trip A mileage changed. It had, of course, been displaying the total miles since trip A had been reset, but as I got closer to running out of gas the mileage went from something like 150 down to 38.

I pulled off to see if I could use my cell phone to locate the nearest station. When I restart my trip this number then changed to 45. At some point this number change to ____ (underscores). I did find a station in time. Once I started going again after filling up the trip odometer returned to working as expected.

Active... At some predetermined by Honda point, the guauge will go into count down mode with the amout of miles you have left to empty. This ususa
Ly starts at about 55 miles or thereabouts. Then inexplicably it will go to total miles on odometer. Then back to counting down the miles and so forth and then back to odometer. The counting down miles can be affected by how fast you are going. The slower you are going amd therefore the less fuel you are using, the further you can go on that fuel. If you switch modes to A or B it kind of messes this whole system up in my experience so just go with the flow. You can switch modes once you get gas.

At any rate I have taken my countdown mode into the teens and still had 1/2 gal of gas left over.

Between the pessimistic guage, having the odometer show up in the middle of count down is rather strange but it is what it is, and you just have to ride enough until you get used to the bikes fuel gauge idiosycracies so that you don't panic when things don't read what you'd expect them to.

Clear as mud?
