My ol' 2014 CB1100 sat in the hot summer sun all day (and rain) in a vast suburbia asphalt parking lot, weekdays and nothing cracked or rotted. To be honest, I was surprised. I did not treat any surfaces other than a odd "wax" treatment on the fuel tank once a year. I did experience bird droppings from time-to-time pretty much anywhere on the bike.
That said, it was also stored outside all year round, including winter. I had a couple of motorcycle covers and I cannot recall the brands. Nothing memorable, however, one [supposedly] "breathed and repelled water" and one was waterproof. I mostly used the waterproof cover. Both would reach down to the driver foot pegs. I used the built-in cord or a bungee cord to cinch the bottom hems enough so a gust would not suck the cover away. It worked reliably and allowed the moisture under the cover to generally escape.
