Then you understand the state-of-the-art and its business relevance.
Probably with the advent of routine production EVs, prototype investors probably backed away since anything associated with optimizing the internal combustion engine at that level is moot.
Along those lines, Ford recently announced (to the internal automotive industry, at least) that they have suspended any further developement of IC engines. I suspect they aren't the only ones.
It's been tried before... if the engine that Preston Tucker had engineered had gone to full production, valve actuation would have been conducted by oil pressure. I don't know about full, camless, solenoid activation of valves in production vehicles, but a variation of the concept has been in place for quite a while for "displacement on demand" engines that can selectively shut down cylinders electronically by opening valves to freewheel the non-firing cylinders.
Cadillac flew a little too close to the sun in 1981, offering that function before the electronic capability was really fully realized with their "V8-6-4" engine.
