Glad you asked that question Ferret. Actually it is very smooth up to about 4800 to 5000rpm. Then you get a bit of a buzz only in the grips but nothing I have found to be overly bothersome. It smooths back out after 6000 or so. You never even need to run it much past 4000 or 4500 because there is an abundance of torque from 2500-3000rpm. I short shift almost all the time. Not because of the buzz but because this thing pulls so hard at low end that you don't need to rev it that much. 390lbs and 67hp with almost 50lb ft of torque is one fun bike.

Your description accurately describes the CB1100 and is exactly how I ride mine, short shifting, using torque in lieu of HP, only I never go past maybe 4500 rpms (no reason to... for me). I honestly don't feel any buzziness in my CB1100. Smooth as silk. Speed limit here is 65. (70 in some spots) but where I ride, which is two lane secondary curvy country back roads, it's mostly 45-55 mph zones, which I will run up to a little over 60, so no reason for me to rev it past about 3500 rpms really. 4500 rpms on my bike is approx 90 mph. I NEVER ride that fast. If the vibes come in above 90 mph then I will never feel them. Bokobob said he has ridden to 95 a couple times and said his bike is smooth at that speed.

Is there some buzziness somewhere in the rev zone of a large displacement inline 4? Probably. I have just not found it, and truthfully since I haven't yet and don't plan on changing my riding style, probably never will.
