I think you can probably still buy paste at a newsagent—is that what you call them in the US? Failing that, maybe a supermarket. Keep it away from the keys; they g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g--g-gg-get stuck and can become quite hard to use. But it's OK on the screen, for a while anyway. It's like using white out, though, you think you've got it but then those pesky letters move around underneath it.
I can't really help you with the problem of passwords. I guess they want you to have one so that some unscrupulous forum member doesn't load up your account with pornography or something like that. I've a number of ways of storing them securely, but that also requires a password! You have to have one for this august forum; perhaps you could use the same one? Yes, yes, yes, all you geeks I know it's not recommended.
I'm a bit interested in writing instructions that people can follow so, if you'd be kind enough to tell me where you got lost, I'll have another go.
