Certainly things to consider. You sound a bit distracted yourself. When you ride your mind has to be clear and lazer focused on the job at hand.
I live in the country so can't imagine what the conditions you have to ride in are like (although I might have got a glimpse when I rode to Cali a couple years ago and got stuck in gawdawful traffic)
Ii think pdedse has a great suggestion...if you don't need to sell, just keep it around. Ride during lower risk times.
I do know there are no guarantees in life and I believe in fate. I know of several motorcycle friends that have succumbed in the last 10 years...all to something other than motorcycle riding...the big C, car wrecks, heart attacks etc. You can't live your life afraid that something is going to happen.
I've ridden since 10 years before my first child was born, ridden all the time they were growing up (as did my wife), and now our daughter, our "first child" is 41 and our "baby", our son, is 37 and has been riding himself for 18 years, and he has sons 4 ,2 and a baby on the way. I've never talked to him about the "what if's" but he is a safe and sensible person that actually works in the insurance industry, and I'm sure he realizes the risks and takes steps to minimize them as you do.
That said, that is a decision that you have to make for yourself. I would assume you are young. There is plenty of time to ride later if one of those other things I talked about doesn't get you first... and that's the catch.
