Yep. I think if we didn't know any better, the RD would still be a perfectly capable two-up touring bike. The problem is that you hop off your ST1300, or I hop off my K1200RS (or we both hop off our DLX's) and climb aboard the RD, suddenly it doesn't seem so great. Between the marginal suspension and wooden brakes, it almost feels dangerous. Honestly, that's how I felt about my '70 CB750K0 too.
