The seat to footpeg distance was big issue for me also (5'11" - not abnormally tall). I went with a Daytona Cozy seat and Buell footpegs (roughly 1.5" drop over stock). This made a drastic difference, though it took a while to get used to the footpegs being so low. I haven't scraped a peg yet, but trying to upshift on a long left turn is not advised. You will give up some performance but for normal riding comfort it's worlds better.
