I understand that turn signals are placed high so car drivers can see them over the hood and wide so they can see it is a turn signal.
I doubt you would get ticketed for altering the height and width of the signal lights, but you might punted across a busy intersection by some distracted driver.
The other day I was following a biker that no signal lights. He used a hand signal. Something I had not seen for decades, so I had no idea which way he was going to turn.
