I spent much of my early riding career on parallel twins of various sizes and even a bone shaking Harley for awhile. One day my buddy handed me the keys to his Yammie XJ650. When I started it, I had to do a double take on the tach. Without the vibes, I couldn't tell if the engine was actually running. The rest of the ride was more of the same (but at higher speeds). On that day, I knew that I was hooked on the I-4. The smoothness and brisk acceleration were way beyond any of my previous two cylinder rides.
To be fair, I used to ride another friend's VF750 Interceptor and Yammie XS750 triple as well and those engine configurations were equally enjoyable, just not as commonly available.
