I've sold my DLX so I'm not sure if I can still participate in discussions
but I rode BMWs for many years, all with ABS, and I can report that although I never used it (thank your preferred deity) in panic, it did operate a few times when braking in low traction areas, like over railroad tracks. I remember riding in my twenties (on my CB400) in town and misjudged a yellow/red light and ended up skidding all the way through the intersection. Fortunately no one hit me, but years later when ABS became available on higher-line bikes, I swore I'd never again ride without it.If you only need it that one time, it's well worth the money.
FWIW, my first BMW was a 1996 model and it had ABS. It's been around for a long time, just only recently on the Japanese bikes.
