We lived in New York for 22 years and I bought and sold many bikes and never had a problem.
Moving to NC was a pain in the neck, I had bought a 79 CBX in New Jersey and had no problem getting a title in New York.
When we moved to NC the problem started with that bike.
Years ago they used the engine # as the vin # on that bike , the DMV in NC would not give me a title or tags.
I had to go thru a title company in Las Vegas, they gave me a registration for Maine, they do not use titles for over 25 years old bikes, only registration.
Even that was at first not enough for NC ,I had to get an official letter from the DMV in Maine to say no titles for older bikes in Maine.
The title and tags is run by private companies in NC, I very much preferred the New York State agency.
You are right about the bankers check ,that's the reason I brought one ,they do take personal checks and I can see them waiting on those.
Buyer Beware!!!
