Thanks for making this forum possible and not selling out. I was a member of a very popular and active aircraft specific forum that sold out. Much like this one, it had hundreds of civil, helpful and polite participants and active moderation to keep out the disruptive element. Within a few months of the sale, the forum was as good as dead. I had participated for over a decade and was very sad to see it go.
These website aggregators are only looking for website hits, which translate to ad revenue. They care very little about the culture or character of the forum, and don't do anything to maintain it. One of the reasons that this forum is such a great place to hang out is that you, The Ferret and Cormanus make the effort to keep it that way. I've been here for nearly 5 years and stop by just about every day because I'm genuinely interested in the people who post here and the fact that we can discuss our favorite subject (in sometimes excruciating detail
).
BTW, I have been baffled by the comments about post counts getting thin in recent months. I'm not really sure what level of activity people are expecting, but I've yet to log in and find nothing of interest. I know of a few formerly popular forums that only get one or two posts a day, if any. The CB1100 is a niche bike, which makes this a niche forum. I'm actually surprised at the amount of activity it generates. I think much of that is due to the efforts of the site owner, moderators and regular participants. Take any of those out of the equation and you end up with something like the former U.K. CB1100 site.
