A trick I use to force the route to go the way I want is to place the waypoint along a road...not at an intersection. Placing waypoints at intersections gives the software (or, a GPS) more options to deviate from your intended route. But if the waypoint is located somewhere along every road you want to ride, it MUST take you down that road to reach the waypoint.
