Just a top box and room across the back seat for camping gear and clothes when I go touring on it. Which I do whenever I can. There are almost certainly better bikes for long distance touring, but the CB is quite capable of it and a joy to do it on.
I don’t mind the small tank capacity. There’s at least a couple of hours riding in it and every one should have a stretch and a break after a couple of hours. Stopping for fuel is a good excuse. However, in those parts of Australia where it can be a long way between petrol stations, a little planning is required.
On tour I always carry a 2l reserve fuel canister with me in addition to the tank volume. Never used it but on 2 trips I was near by. It's mainly there to ease a worried mind, if I ride into an out of gas situation and no petrol station is in sight, what doesn't happen so easily in most parts of Europe. Strange enough that it was the case on a longer part of the AB coming from France over Saarbrücken heading to Frankfurt by night... in the north of Finnland through endless woods direction Norway Finnmark it was more understandable.
