Cormanus, the thing I neglected to mention there is how thoroughly successful the bike is at doing the main thing I want it to do: be fun and satisfying at lower speeds, which is the whole point for me in grabbing a retro. I was so blown away by how well the thing goes fast that I failed to mention how ideal it is at normal street speeds.
It's the first bike I've ever ridden that lulled me into a relaxed, take-it-easy feeling. I've ridden countless cruisers and other slow, non-sporty bikes, and they've always bored me. During parts of the foothills portion of this ride today, though, I was in full-on mickey Mode, just tooling along at 55-60 mph on picture-postcard country roads, enjoying the smooth hum of the motor, the plush ride, and the beautiful scenery.
I don't do that. I've never done that. I want to do that, and there I was, doing it, and enjoying it.
Twenty minutes later, I was trying and failing to scrape something, delighting in the fact that this one bike excels at both things.
