I'm not trying to imply I'm a "better rider", I just think ABS on bikes is an overrated feature. On cars it's a no brainer but bikes are different.

Precisely, on a car without ABS, I think I can lose control for an instant or two while I modulate the brakes to regain control. On a big bike, during emergency braking, I don't think I would be able to do that.
Hard braking without ABS is OK if you know your limits and the bike limits. Emergency braking, at least for me, is a different thing.
And trying the ABS beforehand gives a lot of confidence, so when the emergency comes, you will have developed the instinct to brake as hard as you can, and let the ABS modulate the grip while you try to avoid the obstacule.
(In Spain, you have to practice your ABS braking a few times to get full license for big motorbikes)
