You know, Ferret, you can always go EV. I know some folks in Finland turning out some nice $34,000 motorcycles that claim to have more range than a normal car.
Bleh. That really is a mess. A heck of a way to find out your drain pan is cracked. I had a similar thing happen recently with the coolant collector I use, but that was just coolant, not oil.
One of the blessings of living in a large condo complex is that before I embark on any fluid-draining exercise in the garage, I can fish through our nearby dumpsters and always find yards of discarded cardboard to put on the garage floor. And, when I'm done, the flat sheets of cardboard store neatly under my car, which rarely goes anywhere. I find that if I'm impatient and don't let the oil cool just a bit, the CRV has a wonderful way of shooting oil onto the nearest crossmember and projecting it in a wide splash pattern.
Reminds me of my lowest mental point with my last job. The last thing I do before I go to bed is prep coffee for the morning. I grind the beans, put them in the hopper, fill the water container, wash the pot and put it under the machine, and hit the timer button. At 6:30 am, you can hear a faint beep from the kitchen, followed by the sound of coffee dribbling into the pot. One morning, we discovered that I had forgotten to put the pot under the machine, and the coffee had dumped onto the counter, down the wall to the living room, and into the floorboards. Ended up sanding and repainting the wall and baseboard. Would think that would teach me not to do it again, but I did, two weeks later.

You know what? I actually would like a pickle.
