Those I can see well enough, it's the disconnecting of the tail light wiring that I'm unsure of.

Yes!  I was able to get the rear fender off.  What I was thinking was the tail light wiring...wasn't.

Once I realized what I needed to disconnect, then it wasn't so hard.  For the '17 models, it's only the tail light wiring, the turn signals wires stay put.

The other day I started to clean some of the rust off the underside of the rear fender; I got a good deal of it, but not fun due to the angle and hard to reach factor.  Now it should go better:
