The CB 1100 was a clean sheet of paper design with no horsepower specified, only in that it was to be a bike that was pleasant to ride. Personally, I think they achieved the goal wonderfully. I love just going out and riding my CB 1100. Even if they had made it 100 hp that wouldn't have been enough. People would have said the 1983 1100 made more power than that, 27 years earlier. 125 hp? Still not enough to compete with Ninja 1000's, Yamaha MT-10s, BMW S1000's, Suzuki GSXR's,
The Suzuki Bandit 1200 got panned by the press and consumer for only producing 100 hp, even though it was a great bike, because the competition was making 125-150.
Honda has had the reputation for years of building perfectly wonderful bikes with less hp than their competition. It's why Hondas are often reported as being boring.
