Interesting pedigree for the cb1100 but as a big fan of the cb1300 series i could not help noticing some similarities between the engines such as;
the shape of the clutch housing cover, ignition cover and bolt pattern, front engine mounting, angle of the cylinders and the starter assembly on the left hand side of the bikes.
Could be they decided to use the very strong cb1300 block as a base.
Certainly the air cooled cylinders and head are the most attractive i've seen on any bike;
