Greetings to all! And thanks for all the interesting replies. No... I did NOT ride it home as it's almost 400 miles from the greater Cleveland area, to the Scranton area. I rented a nice MC trailer from our local U-Haul, so my buddy and I made the trip all in one day!
I still don't know the exact reason why anyone would put only 137 miles on this amazing machine in 5 years?!! Could it be a recent purchase of a "left-over" bike?
I did find evidence of a "lay down" as it has deep gouges in the right-hand polished engine cover, plus a few small scratches at the end of the huge chrome muffler.
Maybe the owner got scared and decided to trade it in?...
Whatever the case, his loss is definitely my gain!! This bike is absolutely ASTOUNDING!!! From every angle, it's a work of art! It sounds as good as it looks.
Even the starter motor sounds good to me!!...
After signing what seemed like dozens of documents, I was finally allowed to take it out for a spin... What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!
As soon as I got out to the main road, I grabbed a handful of throttle, and it bogged BADLY!!! Every time I tried to accelerate, it would bog down! It felt like it was running out of fuel (maybe they were using Budweiser instead of Molson?)
All this time I was riding an emotional roller coaster! While sitting around in the
waiting area, feeling like an expectant father, my salesman (thanks for all your hard work Jacob!) came out to talk with me...
As he was letting me down gently, he offered me a full refund on the bike, as they couldn't seem to get it running right. I had just hit an emotional low point, when the head mechanic, Adam came running out. He then rolled the only other CB1100 at the dealership, from the showroom, to the service area. He didn't say a word to us, but looked like he was on a mission! (It was a brand new 2017 model).
He came out a few minutes later to announce the operation was a success!!! He explained all that was needed, was a set of new plugs and all diagnostics were good, with no codes showing up!!!
It turns out it had a loose spark plug wire on the #2 cylinder!!! After waiting for over 2 HOURS for the mechanics to diagnose the problem, it still wasn't running right! They had removed and cleaned all 4 plugs, cuz at least one had "fouled".
They rolled the beauty outside, just as it was getting dark, and told me to give it a good hard ride. So I did... YIKES!!! My life flashed before my eyes, as it was all I could do to hang onto the bars!! In a split second, I went from 30 to 60, as my face shield completely fogged up! I was able to pop it open enough to clear it, after I regained my composure. I then cautiously, ran up thru the gears and could not believe the power and smoothness of this incredible machine??!!!
I'm pretty sure this is motorcycle number 25 for me, (bought my 1st bike in 1971) and all I can say is, nothing even comes CLOSE to the riding experience! I can't wait for a chance to take her out on the back country roads that we have here in NE Pa. Unfortunately, the weather has turned really cold here, with rain, wind, flurries and sleet thrown in for good measure!!!
Thanks guys, for allowing me to share my story with the Forum. I look forward to our first ride together, hopefully sometime in the near future? Come on Spring!!
Best regards to all,
Skinny Bill
