bigsheep, this is probably no use to you, but I wear RJays Tour Am Boots which have been superseded by the [url=http://rjays.com.au/home/products/boots-tour-am-II.html]Tour Am II. The simple reason is that they were the only pair I could get on my short, wide feet and be remotely comfortable. I've had them for nearly 7 years, I think, and they've worn well, although they are not waterproof.
I want some shin and ankle protection (and, in the cold, the warmth that longer boots provide). I don't want laces when I'm touring. Interestingly, it's not the chain that worries me, but more the loop of a lace getting hooked around a lever or a peg at a point whee I need to put my foot down.
