I understand what you're saying. But when I have music in my helmet, I am totally in my zone, and more focused than ever. Much more so than when I have custom-fitted earplugs in that block most sound. I use helmet speakers, so I can still hear what's going on around me, but for whatever reason the music brings focus. Same when I have to review detailed documents at work...put on some tunes with headphones and it brings focus.
Human speech, on the other hand, is a different matter. When I'm focused on what's in front of me, I find speech to be a distraction.
