Honda believes in Dani, even though most American race fans hate him. I'm a big fan of # 26. Not the most personable guy in the world, but I like his ability to pilot a MotoGP machine.
Part of Dani's value to Honda is that he has always kept a lot of valuable points out of the hands of Yamaha riders, plus he is always in contention for the Championship. If something were to happen to Marquez, Dani is right there in the standings.
I think some of this dislike for dani can be traced to his first season in Motogp when he collided with Hayden and nearly cost Nicky the championship.
Dani is one of the all time best but has had the misfortune of being teamed with super aliens like Stoner and now Marquez. I would love to see him win at least one world championship before he retires.
