Some videos show that at very slow speeds, less than 5-8 mph, you actually turn steer right to turn right and vice versa.
The funny thing I've always taught my kids and grandkids when learning to ride a bicycle is if you start to fall a certain direction, turn that way to keep from falling. But of course that is at very slow speeds and it keeps getting slower if I'm the one teaching them while holding on to the back of their seat ;-)
I always thought that was because of the "rake" angle on the fork. If you try to balance a bicycle without any forward speed, turning the wheel toward the fall side is the only way to stay up.
But at higher speeds, you do turn left to turn right and so on.
The new way to teach riding a bicycle is to get those bicycles without pedals. My last two grand kids learned to ride that way. Of course that takes acceleration out of the equation to stay up right so I’m not sure that’s a good thing, but it worked, so it's hard to argue with success.
This might be over thinking things, but when I was learning to fly my Cessna 172, breaking down a complex connected set of motions into steps was the way it was taught.
So I find it interesting just to try and break down what comes naturally now, into logical physics backed decisions. And as I become older, I do more thinking than actually doing, so this is fun mental exercise for me ;-)
