Alphabetical Ardor

Interesting and kind of surprising. I guess I imagined a network of named (minor roads) or numbered (major roads/highways). At an intersection like the one pictured I would imagine there would be a sign post saying, for example, Franklin 21m - Uttica 10m. If not, remind me to bring a GPS or a good map. Country roads in OZ are, in the main, named for departure or destination, or some combination of both. The Boorowa Crookwell Road or the Picton Road for example. Federal highways have traditional names, Pacific Highway for example, but are also signed with a Federal designator, A1 for example. However there are enough exceptions to the rule to make what would be considered a boring subject throw up some quirky surprises.
