I have noticed that too!
I wasn't sure if they extended the filler neck down into the tank to help prevent you from over filling it or if they needed to maintain an air pocket in the tank for some reason? I let it settle a couple of times, but then stop.

Anyone else notice that just when you think the tank is full, the gas settles down into unknown recesses and an effort to get the fuel to the bottom of the filler neck is a long, drawn out process?
